President's Report

A Message from NAIFA-Omaha President Todd Gaswick

Happy New Year, NAIFA-Omaha!

I hope you all had a blessed and safe holiday season.  This is my first and long overdue letter to the membership.  No excuses – every time I thought about writing a letter something would come up and distract me.  Sort of like the time management concept of focusing on one specific task until it is complete and just when you are in the middle of the task….”SQUIRREL!” and you’re off target and on a tangent.

I hope you share my excitement for 2017.  Each new year brings with it a renewal of effort.  I’m not a resolution kind of person, but I do believe in an annual business plan and I’ve been working hard refining mine for 2017.  I hope this finds all of you doing the same as you start the new year.

I want to thank all of you for your support and participation in 2016.  I hope you are excited for what we are going to bring to you in 2017 and I ask that you plan on attending as many if not all the events we are offering.  Two events I specifically want to mention are our first membership meeting of the year, and this year’s Insurance Leaders Forum.

Our first meeting is on 19 January and our guest speaker is Roger Seip. He is who I stole the “squirrel” reference from.  He will be entertaining, but you will walk away with productive ideas that will help your business and everyday work flow and productivity.

You may recall last year’s Forum was held in Kearney.  We are back in Omaha this year at the La Vista Embassy Suites.  Here is the teaser – Dr Tom Osborne will conduct a 3-hour insurance ethics class Thursday afternoon, APril 20.  And our main platform speaker Friday morning is Alex Sheen.  Alex is the founder of the organization “Because I said I would” and he spoke at the NAIFA national conference in September.  One of the most inspirational speakers I’ve heard and I’ve heard many through my military career.

As you plan for 2017, I do ask that you continue your support for NAIFA; or, if appropriate, to recommit to your NAIFA organization.  We just came out of the most bruising yet interesting election of my lifetime.  We are likely to see many changes in this coming year – some perhaps expected, but some perhaps not.  How will these changes affect our industry, your business, and most importantly, our clients?  We must remain vigilant and guard against any and all changes that could negatively affect all of us.  That is why I want to thank you for your membership.  If you haven’t done so, please make the NAIFA mission part of your own mission statement.  And, if you know anyone in the business that is not a member of their professional association, please ask them to attend one our upcoming meetings.

Once again – Happy New Year.  Here’s to making a 2017 a masterpiece!

Todd A Gaswick

Meeting Reminder

Professional Development Luncheon Thursday, January 19

Join us as we welcome Best Selling Author Roger Seip to Omaha!

NAIFA-Omaha and our friends with the Omaha Society of Financial Service Professionals are teaming up for a great double-header on Thursday, January 19th at Champions Run Country Club.

The main event will be our Professional Development Luncheon featuring Train Your Brain for Success author, Roger Seip.

This meeting is sponsored by

You're invited to stay for a special Social Security Timing CE program and happy hour immediately following the NAIFA Luncheon.
1:30 - 3:30 PM - CE Program
3:30 - 5:00 PM - Cocktails and Networking
This in depth course will review how blending withdrawals from IRA, Roth IRA, Non-Qualified accounts and Social Security can reduce taxes and increase portfolio longevity and estate values. Participants will learn:

  • Why retirement income decisions should be based on a client’s Effective Marginal Rate, not their tax bracket
  • How this perspective adds significant value to client plans
  • How Social Security, Non-Qualified, Qualified and Roth withdrawals can be structured to deliver better outcomes
  • Why advisors will need to work with other professionals to implement these strategies

The program will provide 2 hours of CE for NE and IA Life Insurance, CFP, Legal, Accounting and PACE (pending approvals).

NAIFA members can attend the CE program for a discounted rate of $25 (FREE for those who are also Society of FSP members). The price for non-members is $50.

Click here to register for one or both programs online -- or contact NAIFA-Omaha Executive VP Joe Pittman at or 402-397-0280.
